Expert Evaluation and Early Diagnosis for Your Oral Health
The tissues inside your mouth can provide important clues about your overall health. While many oral lesions, sores, or lumps are harmless, others may represent infections, precancerous changes, oral cancer, or other conditions that require prompt diagnosis and treatment. If you have an area in your mouth that has not healed within two weeks or have noticed an unusual lump, discoloration, or persistent irritation, it should be evaluated by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
At Arbor View Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. Jason provides comprehensive evaluation, biopsy, and oral pathology consultation for abnormalities affecting the mouth, jaw, lips, tongue, cheeks, gums, and surrounding tissues. With specialized surgical training and advanced diagnostic technology, Dr. Jason is committed to identifying the cause of your condition and developing a personalized treatment plan focused on your long-term health and peace of mind.
What Is an Oral Biopsy?
An oral biopsy is a simple, in-office surgical procedure in which a small sample of tissue is removed and sent to a specialized oral pathology laboratory for microscopic examination. Depending on the size and location of the lesion, Dr. Jason may remove the entire area (an excisional biopsy) or obtain a small tissue sample (an incisional biopsy) to establish an accurate diagnosis.
An oral biopsy may be recommended for:
- Sores or ulcers that do not heal within two weeks
- White or red patches inside the mouth
- Persistent lumps or swelling
- Unexplained changes in the gums or soft tissues
- Dark or pigmented lesions
- Chronic pain or irritation without an obvious cause
- Jaw cysts or other abnormalities discovered on dental X-rays or 3D imaging
Personalized Care Every Step of the Way
Receiving news that you may need a biopsy can feel overwhelming, but most oral lesions are benign and many require little or no additional treatment. Dr. Jason takes the time to thoroughly explain your findings, answer your questions, and help you understand each step of the process.
Once the biopsy has been analyzed by a board-certified oral pathologist, Dr. Jason will personally review the results with you and discuss any recommended treatment or follow-up care. If additional treatment is necessary, Arbor View Oral & Facial Surgery works closely with your general dentist, physician, and other healthcare specialists to ensure you receive comprehensive, coordinated care.
The Importance of Early Detection
Early diagnosis is one of the most important factors in successfully treating diseases of the mouth. Identifying abnormal tissue changes before they progress often allows for less invasive treatment, faster healing, and significantly improved outcomes.
Whether the diagnosis is a harmless irritation, an inflammatory condition, an infection, or something more serious, Dr. Jason believes that patients deserve prompt answers, compassionate care, and a clear treatment plan.
If you have a sore, lump, discoloration, or other oral abnormality that has persisted for more than two weeks, schedule an evaluation with Dr. Jason at Arbor View Oral & Facial Surgery. Our goal is to provide an accurate diagnosis, exceptional surgical care, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your oral health is in experienced hands.
